Giffords Hall Vineyard

The Giffords Hall vineyard was planted around 20 years ago and the vines are now approaching their prime.

Madeleine Angevine, Bacchus, Reichensteiner and Rondo all do well here.

2005 was an exceptional year and successfully harvested a total of 24 tonnes of very high quality grapes. Optimum sugar levels of 78 oechsle and an acidity of 8-10 were achieved. The grapes sold to vineyards in Suffolk, Essex, Kent and Dorset

The 2006 harvest has yielded 42 tonnes achieving oechsle levels of 61-70 and acidity of 8.2-8.9. Over the last 2 years we have improved the trellis system and mechanised several of the day to day running tasks in the vineyard. At the same time, improved spraying and pruning techniques are yielding results.

We are able to transport around 9 tonne loads in returnable crates. We are happy to hear from buyers throughout the UK and visits from potential buyers are welcome.

Recruitment 2007:

We are happy to hear from pickers for the end of September to the second week in October for our Harvest.  If you are interested please contact Linda on office@giffordshall.co.uk

Picking information:
The work is not strenuous, (unless you are on loading duty) and involves using secateurs to pick the grapes which are then carried in buckets to the tractor area. We are paying good rates by the bucket. Tea and coffee are provided and some basic accommodation may be available.

You will need a packed lunch, some gloves, and wet weather gear thought it is usually warm and fine at that time of year. We will also need some strong arm workers to help with loading and weighing but the bins are usually light enough for one man to lift.
